I love spending my nights after work in front of the TV as much as the next person. And, yes I also believe one should not feel ashamed if they spend a Sunday binge-watching Friends. This is called relaxation, look it up! 😛

However, I also believe that we are spending a lot of time glued to our screens. From laptops to our phones, it is A LOT of screen time. Countless studies have shown that this screen time reduces the gray matter areas of the brain, where the actual “processing” happens.

So, I’ve decided to make a conscious effort to incorporate tech-free time in my life as well. Here are some of my favorite screen-free activities which can be enjoyed all year round. I tried to pick those which wouldn’t cost much, not breaking the bank!

Enjoy An Outdoor Sport

There are a lot of different options available when it comes to outdoor sports. Get out there are enjoy one of these!

Listen to A Podcast/ Radio

Instead of having dinner in front of the TV listen to the radio or a podcast. This reduces screen-time and boredom both.

Bake Something 

Baking is the one things which take my mind of things. It doesn’t have to be extravagant. Just bake something as simple as a loaf of bread!

Organize Something

There is always going to be something in your room which needs to be organized. Stop procrastinating and finish the task at hand.

Visit Your Neighbours

Sometimes it feels like the good old fashion visits to your neighbors is going away, however, you should keep in touch and visit them often.

Go For A Walk

This is a great way to get outside. Even if it’s extremely hot, take a walk in your town, neighborhood during the evening when things cool down.

Paint

It doesn’t matter if you consider yourself an artist or not, everyone can enjoy drawing or painting. Just get some cheap paints and a canvas you don’t need the fancy stuff! Maybe even set up a still life and try to paint it!

Maybe a DUH item, but I always have books I want to get through and always say I don’t “have the time.” Lately, I’ve been reading before bed instead of my normal “browse through Instagram.” I think it helps me shut down from the day much better.

Play a Board Game

There are so many fun games to play, even if it’s just two of you! And, don’t forget about all the great card games, too.

Write

Writing can be so therapeutic. You can write about anything. Write in your blog if you have one, start a journal, or find a writing prompt and write on the topic for 30 minutes.
